Teacher Melanie Lee Lastimosa Tragically Stabbed to Death in Talisay City, Cebu, in Domestic Dispute
Talisay City, Cebu, is mourning the loss of Melanie Lee Lastimosa, a dedicated public school teacher who was fatally stabbed by her live-in partner in the early hours of October 7, 2025. The tragic incident occurred just hours after the nation celebrated World Teachers’ Day.
Lastimosa, 43, a Teacher III at Lawaan Elementary School, was discovered near her home’s gate, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency responders' efforts to save her, she was declared dead at approximately 12:50 a.m.
Authorities have arrested her partner, 42-year-old Katherine Arcilla Retita, in connection with the stabbing. Retita allegedly attacked Lastimosa after an argument that began when the couple’s dog ran out of the house. Retita returned intoxicated, which led to a heated dispute.
Neighbors and family have described Lastimosa as a kind and passionate educator who made a lasting impact on her students. The Talisay community is now calling for justice, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy continues.
The family, friends, and colleagues of Lastimosa are planning a memorial to honor her life and contributions to education.
